Those devoid of wisdom bear a vacant look in their faces. Their minds waver and they have no Discrimination.


ātmauṣadhamātmanā tuṣyatu nātmanā varteta




One should uplift oneself by one’s own self. One should not degrade oneself.


śreyān svadharmo viguṇaḥ paradharmāt svanuṣṭhitāt
svadharme nidhanaṁ śreyaḥ paradharmo bhayāvahaḥ




It is far better to discharge one’s prescribed duties, even though faultily, than another’s duties perfectly. Destruction in the course of performing one’s own duty is better than engaging in another’s duties, for to follow another’s path is dangerous.


uddhared ātmanātmānaṁ nātmānam avasādayet




One must elevate oneself by one’s own mind, and not degrade oneself.


yadā saṁharate cāyaṁ kūrmo ‘ṅgānīva sarvaśaḥ
